Handbags to flatter your body shape

I have been dubbed the handbag queen as I do own quite a few handbags and one of the things I specialize in is buying and selling bags, whether it be a vintage bag, designer bag, quality branded bag or a used leather bag, lets say I know a thing or two about handbags.
So I could write a blog on the different components, whether it has a flex frame or 40mm D rings or a U-shape press clasp fastening, but that’s only going to make me sound like more of a geek than I already am, and that’s not going to help you out much.
But I’ve thought of a way that might help you out somewhat…..
“How to choose a handbag to flatter your body shape”

Now we’ve all heard of making sure we are wearing the right fit dress or the right cut jeans ( if you want tips on jeans to flatter your butt then check out my previous blog HERE ) but I bet you haven’t thought too much about the bag you are carrying can make you look out of proportion. So here’s a few quick tricks on choosing the best handbag style for you.

1cd7e38105d18246833256ae73c9762f h9991471_001bodytypepear_qkqb49Top heavy  or apple shape ladies should avoid large shoulder bags that sit between your underarm and waist as this will add bulk to this area and only make this part appear wider, (instead opt for a cross body bag that will sit low on your hips) However if you are a pear shape with narrow shoulders, average bust but larger hips then the large shoulder bag will flatter your body shape by adding volume up top and balance out your hips creating an hourglass silhouette.

You hourglass ladies can carry any style of bag as your bodies are already balanced, but you do have something to consider…
Size…. So our plus size hour glass ladies should never carry a small bag, this will only make you appear larger in comparison, equally, our petite hour glass ladies should refrain from carrying too oversized bag as you will appear smaller by comparison.
My last little tip is try a backpack as they suit all body types, if that’s your thing!

I really hope this has helped you out somewhat when choosing your handbag, if you have and queries or would like me to go into more detail on this, please feel free to contact me

Everyone’s going wild for leopard print …..

…………This is the coat that really started it! Worn by Jackie Onassis in 1962 designed by Oleg Cassini, before this, leopard print (real leopard fur (YUK!)) was worn by women as fashion in the decadent days of the 1920s through to the 1950s, usually by actresses and the very wealthy, but it was Jackie O in this coat that made mainstream women in the 60s hunt down their own copies of this coat, usually in faux fur.

Leopard Print is timeless and never really goes out of style & it demands attention
you can still pack a punch with leopard accessories if you don’t want to go full on with a coat, however I think you’ll be surprised how many outfits this will compliment, either the stylish smart Parisian look or go for the rock chic edgy look like Kate Moss

…….even I’m at it! I do LOVE a bit of leopard print

Tips and Tricks on getting the perfect jeans to flatter your bum !

When shopping for Jeans one thing most women don’t look out for is the back POCKETS

The shape, size, width, height etc of the back pockets can completely change the shape & size of your butt
Here’s Desdemonas tips on getting the most bum-flattering Jeans

OK so you have a Flat / Small Butt & you want to emphasize

You are not the only one celebs like Victoria Beckham, Taylor Swift & Gwyneth Paltrow also have weenie butts

Victoria Beckham is the first to say she has a flat butt and started her own range of jeans (VB Rocks for Rock & Republic in 2004) because of this.

To emphasize a small butt pick jeans with Flap back pockets, embellished pockets, buttons on the pockets, high pockets to lift the butt, Make sure the bottom of back pockets never sit lower than the butt cheek, or you will be in danger of a droopy look

Flaps / Buttons / Stitching / Wide belt buckles all good for creating that bubble butt

Stay away from high waisted garments as they will just stretch out and flatten your butt further, instead opt for a well fitting lower waist jean to “squash” the butt as such

See how the height of the waist can make a huge difference

Now for you Big Bottomed girls (That as Freddie Mercury sang “you make the rocking world go round”) so you want to make it appear smaller, Now, I’m all for a big bum! But as any stylist will tell you “its all about proportions” so this is great for you juicy pear shape girls.

Celebs with larger butts are Kim Kardashian J-Lo & Kelly Clarkson

Now you girls need the opposite as before mentioned for small butts, Avoid any unwanted bulk, avoid small back pockets the smaller the pockets the bigger your butt will appear. You need big wide pockets that sit lower on the butt cheeks and the closer the pockets are together the better, as that draws the width in.

ALL WRONG!

Much better

Another little trick is the shape of the Back Yoke (which is the row of stitching between the waistband and the pockets) this can completely change the shape of your butt by illusion

The Butt Optical Illusion

Choose an inverted arc yoke to create volume and a V yoke to minimize volume, a straight yoke is only really flattering on a top heavy body shape as it widens the hips.

Last tip! Never buy jeans with no back pockets, they do not flatter any body shape, and need abolishing !

Hope this has given you ladies a tip or two when buying your next Autumn/Winter jeans
